My role: Game Designer
Genre: HyperCasual Game Engine: Unity Team: Solo Total Time: 1 Week Vapormaze is a 3D Endless Runner designed to captivate the player with its engaging game loop, offering a suggestive and immersive gameplay experience. The game is born as an experiment and it's inspired on classic endless runners and arcade games like Outrun. |

The game was made as an assignment for the Game Design Course with DBGA. The scope was to recreate a game using very simple elements like cubes and spheres.
The goal of the game is to go as far as possible, avoiding the slope that is arriving behind the ball. The player needs to avoid to fall and, after 15 seconds the player started, the path will start to disappear from the starting point. So the player needs to be faster than the incoming slope. I wanted to recreate an arcade experience that could remind '90s game sessions with arcade games. As such, I tried to create a random environment where the player can find every time different experiences but at the same time I want to make a game speed, and not just in terms of velocity: the player needs to have the chance to start a new game without any major trouble, just press R to restart a new session. The movement provide an automatic acceleration that once reached the apex velocity it stopped and the speed of the ball depends only on the gravity. The scoring depends on how far the player is from the starting point. Every time the player reached a checkpoint spot (every 500 m) there is a time extension with a freeze of slope behind the player. |
